Until last year, that is... when I decided to go as someone else, one of my alter egos, "Penny Jo." Penny Jo had a blast, despite the fact that, in some ways, the 2001 Art Car Ball was the most disappointing Art Car Ball ever. In fact, it was such a great disappointment that The Orange Show chose not to host a Ball this year.

WHAT?! Art Car Weekend without an Art Car Ball? The Art Car Ball is one of the most unique parties around... in part because of the crowd of participants it attracts, the artists as well as the people from the community. And, of course, the cars. What other party considers cars to be the honored guests?

This year, thanks to a small group of car artists who couldn't imagine Art Car Weekend without an Art Car Ball, the "best party of the year" may actually be that - for everyone. With a major musical act like Mojo Nixon and numerous mini-performances filled with fire and frivolity, this year's event will have something for everyone. "Old-timers" who remember Art Car Balls of the past expect it to have all of the spontaneity of the early years without all of the hassles of a fund-raising corporate event. And, this year, everyone can actually afford to come!
